Kyle Larson and Austin Dillon
Darlington’s unique, egg-shaped track makes racing here particularly challenging.
Every race sees at least one driver fall victim to an error in judgment or a curious circumstance that forces his or her car into the track wall, scraping paint off the passenger side and often causing more extensive damage. Drivers who make contact with the wall in this way are said to have earned their “Darlington stripe.”
During the 2014 Southern 500, two rookie drivers—Kyle Larson and Austin Dillon—earned their stripes and talk about the experience in this NASCAR video.
