Independence Day Celebration at Hightower Hall

The United States’ Independence from King George will be celebrated on Friday, July 4th at Hightower Hall, the antebellum home of John Bratton, Jr. Historic Brattonsville will feature 19th-century style festivities such as music and dancing, a militia muster, and children’s military drills. Visitors can join in on the English folk game called “Rounders,” which is similar to baseball, or participate in the “Game of Graces,” also known as “French Hoops.” Historic interpreters will be giving cooking demonstrations and tours of Brattonsville’s antebellum homes. The Friends of Historic Brattonsville will be providing food for purchase

New this year, the Civilian Archers Society will be on the grounds demonstrating the historic pastime of target archery. A private club dedicated to researching and recreating the art and past time of target archery during the 1860s, the Civilian Archers Society is dedicated to the proper use of traditional bows and arrows.

Historic Brattonsville’s Independence Day Celebration will culminate with a reading of the Declaration of Independence on the front steps of Hightower Hall at 3 p.m.
