Celebrate the history of our Lowcountry and sea island roots December 6-11. Many holiday traditions started in the Southeast during the country’s Colonial period, and some continue to this day.
This weeklong series of events celebrates those past traditions and tells the story of the holidays through the eyes of Colonial planters and slaves, Civil War soldiers and formerly enslaved peoples. Also included is Gullah storytelling, sweet grass basket making and Lowcountry cooking and style.
Historic Holidays is about exploring past holiday traditions, but also about starting new traditions while exploring Hilton Head Island’s history.
