From a folklorist’s perspective, Dr. Stephen Criswell, USC Lancaster Director of Native American Studies and Professor of English and Folklore, explores the origins and development of the holiday of Halloween as a pre-Christian festival, a Christian holy day designed to help convert early Europeans, and a contemporary carnivalesque celebration for children and adults.
