Exploring Mars with NASA Engineer Kobie Boykins
Harbison Theatre at Midlands Technical College 7300 College Street, Irmo, South Carolina 29063
A young, dynamic engineer at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Kobie Boykins has become a household name in Mars exploration. A vibrant storyteller, Boykins will share his passion for exploring the Red Planet and offer anecdotes about designing and deploying robotic Mars rovers on multiple successful missions. His Opportunity rover, which only needed to last 90 days, has successfully transmitted data from Mars since deployment back in January 2004. Boykins’ recent work includes the design of actuators on Curiosity, the car-sized, roving science lab that has been identifying minerals on Mars since 2012.
