The Charleston Museum’s Dill Sanctuary is a 580-acre wild preserve located along the Stono River that is home to a wide array of birdlife. A six-acre wildlife pond with three nesting islands attracts numerous wading birds, including threatened wood storks, while maintained fields, surrounded by woodland, provide habitat for songbirds, wild turkeys and raptors.
Join the Charleston Natural History Society, a local chapter of the National Audubon Society, for a guided tour of the Dill Sanctuary. Learn more about the birdlife that call the Dill Sanctuary home or that are passing through during migration.
Suggested items to bring: binoculars, birding guide book/app, water, bug spray hat and sunscreen. Please note, this is an “off-road” location with unprepared terrain. Closed toed shoes are required and walking shoes/boots are strongly recommended.
Reservations required. Cost is $25 for museum members; $40 for non-members.

Tours with insufficient enrollment may be canceled. Participants will be notified in advance and full refunds or the opportunity to transfer to another program will be offered. Participant cancellations must be requested 48 hours in advance for a refund minus $10 administration fee. Full registration fee may be transferred to a future tour or other adult program. Cancellations made less than 48 hours in advance will result in a forfeiture of tour fee.
The Dill Sanctuary is not open for daily visitation. The Museum offers programs throughout the year to provide public access to this protected property. The Dill Sanctuary is a wildlife preserve and pets are not permitted on the property.
