2nd Annual Diabetes Run for Life
River Hills 165 Heritage Drive, Lake Wylie, South Carolina 29710
The 2nd annual Diabetes Run for Life, hosted by The River Hills/Lake Wylie Lions Club is Saturday, May 11 within the lakeside community of River Hills in Lake Wylie. The starting line is at Hamiltons Ferry Road and Highway 49. Participants can enjoy scenic views while raising funds to help children with Type 1 Diabetes.
There will be three events: 5K & 10K races and a 1-mile Family Fun Walk. The event will begin at 8 a.m. Over 300 runners are expected this year.
One of the pillars of Lions International is support for Childhood Type 1 Diabetes programs. Proceeds from last year's inaugural event enabled the River Hills/Lake Wylie Lions Club to send 18 children to a weeklong, overnight summer camp at Camp Sweet Escape this year. For many children, this will be their first time away from home, and for some, it will be a life-changing event.
Camp Sweet Escape conducts a weeklong camp hosting up to 150 Type 1 Diabetes children. This year's camp dates will be July 28 through Aug. 1. The camp has a volunteer staff of over 40, primarily medical personnel and former camp attendees who can identify with those in attendance with Type 1 Diabetes.
The River Hills/Lake Wylie Lions Club is the largest membership organization for Lions International in North and South Carolina, with over 130 active members.
