USC Lancaster’s Native American Studies is hosting its 18th Annual Native American Studies Celebration, held on selected dates beginning Wednesday, Nov. 1 and concluding on Friday, Nov. 10.
This year's signature event, "Indigenous Athletes and Athleticism: Vital Contributions to a National Passion," celebrates Indigenous feats in sports and athleticism. Events include a lecture on Jim Thorpe by Pulitzer Prize-winning author David Maraniss, She Carries On film screening and filmmaker discussion with Dr. Natalie Welch (Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians), a roundtable discussion on Catawba athletes, a lecture on the impact of Indigenous athletes in the world of sports by founder and editor of Native Viewpoint Vincent Schilling (Awkwesasne Mohawk), an exhibit reception and more!
