Jamming with SEBGA
I just completed reading Hastings Hensel’s article “The great bluegrass road trip” in the September 2014 issue of South Carolina Living. While exciting and interesting, I was disappointed that he did not include the bluegrass associations that are working hard to keep roots music alive in South Carolina. The Southeastern Bluegrass Association of South Carolina (SEBGA) was organized in 1990 and is located in Florence. Complete information is available on our website at www.sebga.org. There are other associations, including the Rivertown Bluegrass Society in Conway. Our organizations encourage and assist jammers (regardless of their experience level), inspire young bands and excite newcomers to the music. Please check us out! — Charlie Calder, Florence.

I love jamming at Cain's BBQ every Friday night in Florence SC. Always a lot of fun, with many different pickers who drop in and play. — Ernie McCormick, Florence

My favorite pickin’ parlor? Cowboy Church at The Hippodrome in North Augusta, S.C. We have open mic time every Wednesday evening from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., featuring country and bluegrass hymns. — Dr. W. Lynn Kirkland
