Watercolor Painting from Life Workshop with Local Artist Giselle Harrington
to
The Dill Sanctuary 1163 Riverland Drive, Charleston, South Carolina 29412
In this one-day workshop students will learn to paint en plein air (literally: “in the open air”) painting from life. Topics will include how to choose a scene to paint from, identify a simplified value and color design to paint and capture this on paper in a planned-out series of watercolor wash layers.
Led by artist Giselle Harrington and taking inspiration from the breathtaking views at the Charleston Museum’s Dill Sanctuary, students will watercolor paint in this class, though the lessons in color and value composition will be useful across media. Students should have a basic understanding of how to handle watercolor paint, particularly how to paint a shape in an even watercolor wash (there are no brushstrokes in watercolor painting).
Cost is $120 for Museum members; $150 for non-members. This class will occur rain or shine. In the event of severe weather, however, please reserve Oct. 25 for make-up class date. Reservations required.
Register online or call (843) 722-2996 ext. 235.
Recommended supply list found here. Students should be prepared to bring these or similar supplies.
The Dill Sanctuary, a 580-acre wildlife preserve, is only open to the public for select programs with The Charleston Museum. Due to the nature of the wildlife sanctuary, pets are not permitted on the property.
Classes with insufficient enrollment may be canceled. Students will be notified in advance and full refunds or the opportunity to transfer to another workshop will be offered. Student cancellations must be requested 48 hours in advance for a refund minus $10 administration fee. Full registration fee may be transferred to a future workshop or other adult program. Cancellations made less than 48 hours in advance will result in a forfeiture of the workshop fee.
