USC Upstate 800 University Way, Spartanburg, South Carolina 29303
The Curtis R. Harley Art Gallery, located in USC Upstate's Humanities and Performing Arts Center, presents “A Good Read in the Dynasty,” a selection of paintings and drawings by prominent multi-disciplinary artist Tonya Gregg. The exhibition, which opens Nov. 4 and runs through Dec. 2, features about a dozen of Gregg’s recent works. An artist reception will be held at 4:30 p.m. Nov. 10. This event is free and open to the public.
In her imaginative, emotive paintings and drawings, Tonya Gregg explores issues of race, class, sexuality, consumption, and society’s pressures and paradoxes regarding women of color. Inspired by pop culture ephemera, such as fashion magazines and comic books, and African motifs and historical narrative paintings, her works portray the inner worlds of young women striving for harmony among conflicting identities.
