The fourth annual Traditional Inuit Paddlers of the Southeast kayaking retreat weekend will bring together a small but avid group of kayakers from all over the eastern half of the country to spend a weekend sharing their knowledge, learning about traditional kayaking methods and skills, and having a lot of fun on the water and off. At TIPS, some of the experienced kayakers will practice many of the more than 30 types of traditional kayak-rolling techniques. But the event also welcomes novices and those who may be new to paddling with the “skinny stick.” The mentoring approach to teaching skills is also a tradition in QAJAQ USA, so the expert paddlers and special guest mentors gladly work with those who are less experienced. Evening entertainment and kayak games add to the camaraderie that is shared throughout the weekend.
