South Carolina State Old Time Fiddling Championship
to
Hagood Mill Historic Site and Folklife Center 138 Hagood Mill Road, Pickens, South Carolina 29671
Old-Time musicians near and far descend on the grounds of Hagood Mill to compete in this official State-sanctioned two-day event.
We will have over $3,500 in prize money for competitions in the following categories: Adult Fiddle, Jr. Fiddle (16 and under), Adult “Wildcat”, Jr. “Wildcat”, Adult Old Time Banjo, Jr. Old Time Banjo, Adult Old Time String Band, Jr. Old Time String Band, Adult Guitar, and Jr. Guitar.
This is a weekend-long event, with concerts on Friday and Saturday evenings and the ability to camp onsite as well. See our website for full event details, ticket prices and registration fees.
There will be lots of other things to see on Sept. 18-19 as Hagood Mill hosts a variety of folklife and traditional-arts demonstrations. There will be blacksmithing, bowl-digging, flint-knapping, chair-caning, moonshining, broom-making, basket making, pottery, quilting, spinning, knitting, weaving, woodcarving, metalsmithing, beekeeping, bobbin lace, and leatherworking demonstrations and much more! We encourage visitors to ask questions of the artists, gain insight, and if you wish, spend a little money to secure a Traditional Arts treasure of your own.
As always, we encourage visitors to bring lawn chairs or blankets for the show. Visitors are also welcome to bring their favorite old-time instruments and join in the “open jam” which typically takes place throughout the day under the ancient cedar beside our beloved 1791 log cabin.
There promises to be lots to do and lots of fun! Admission is $5.00 a person. 12 and under are free. Admission includes entrance to the Hagood Mill Historic Site as well as the Heritage Pavilion and South Carolina Petroglyph Site. All proceeds help offset the costs at Hagood Mill.
