It’s time for sheep shearing at Historic Brattonsville.
Every Saturday in May, historically-dressed interpreters will be hand-shearing the Gulf Coast Sheep. Learn about how the site is preserving this special heritage-breed farm animal. Activities highlight all the steps involved in processing wool, including carding and spinning thread, natural dyeing techniques, weaving on the barn loom and creating textiles from wool. Other events feature interpretation of the newly recreated Bratton General Store, circa 1871, special site tours at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and open hearth cooking demonstrations.
Living History Saturdays at Historic Brattonsville take place between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
