Plowshares Into Swords – Living History Saturday

In honor of the beginning of the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, this special Living History Saturday highlights South Carolina’s transition from peacetime into war beginning in the year 1775. Learn about that year’s military actions, motivations for supporting the Loyalist and Patriot causes and other harvest-season activities.

On-going activities

• 18th century cooking
• Corn-shelling
• South Carolina Troops in 1775: the New Acquisition Militia and the 3rd South Carolina Regiment

Timed activities

• Animal feeding (10:30 a.m.)
• “1775: ‘Times Began to be Troublesome’” tour with CHM Historian Zach Lemhouse (11 a.m. & 3 p.m.)
• Children’s Militia Drill (1 p.m.)
• Brattonsville site tour (2 p.m.)
