North Charleston City Gallery Exhibit: Works by Alvin Staley and DeWayne Sykes

Concurrent solo exhibitions. Orangeburg, SC, artist Alvin Staley will present a collection of work spanning over 30 years in his exhibit Icons and Images: Christian Metaphors. Alvin’s artwork expresses his Christian beliefs, concerns, doctrines, and fascination with the souls of people, with many pieces depicting personalized icons that represent his visual concept of Deity. In Carolina Soul, Charleston artist DeWayne Sykes will display pieces created through a technique called Pyrography, which involves burning images into wood using an electrical tool or a pit fire. The subject matter of his work is influenced by his Lowcountry heritage, religious inspiration, and cherished childhood stories.
