Join us for a discussion with Museum of York County curator, Dr. Steve Fields, to learn about the Miocene Epoch, where changes in climate altered the landscape and prompted large–scale adaptation, migration, and extinction of lifeforms.
Rhinos, elephant-like gomphotheres and giant “pigs” were the residents of the day. Along with horses, camels and bizarre horned beasts, they had to contend with the world’s newest ecosystem – the grassland. More challenges were yet to come with the Pliocene Epoch, when the earth entered a new phase of climate change that led to the Ice Ages.
