The Franklin G. Burroughs - Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum is proud to present "A Lasting Impression I A Private Collection of European Art (1860-1983)," a captivating exhibition exploring the light, color and atmosphere that define the Impressionist tradition. The exhibition will be on view June 13 through Sept. 27, inviting visitors to experience works that capture fleeting moments and the beauty of everyday life.
A groundbreaking movement that emerged in France in the mid- to late-19th century, Impressionism transformed the art world by emphasizing visible brushstrokes, vibrant color and the changing effects of light. The 58 works in "A Lasting Impression" include landscapes, pastoral scenes and moments of quiet reflection with remarkable sensitivity and energy, completed by 51 different artists.
Impressionists inspired generations of artists to experiment with new techniques and styles and paved the way for subsequent modern art movements like Fauvism, Cubism and Expressionism. The exhibition features works that explore this connection, including pieces by Chagall, Matisse and Picasso. Visitors will discover the defining moments of the style—and the powerful influence they had on what came next.
Museum hours are Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Closed on Mondays. Admission is $8 for adults over 18; $5 for veterans and seniors; free for children 18 and under, museum members, full-time students, those eligible under the Blue Star Museum participants, North American Reciprocal Museums (NARM) participants, EBT card holders and Bank of America cardholders during the first full weekend of every month as part of the Museums on Us™ program.
