Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park 229 Beach City Road , Hilton Head Island, South Carolina 29926
Start your Juneteenth weekend with rhythm, reflection and joy at the 2025 Juneteenth Drum Circle on Friday, June 13, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park on Hilton Head Island.
This high-energy, family-friendly event is both a celebration and a ceremony, blending the vibrant beats of African drumming with a meaningful tribute to the past. It’s a powerful and uplifting way to honor where we’ve been while celebrating where we’re going—together.
The evening begins with a libation ceremony, an age-old African tradition that honors our ancestors and gives thanks for the blessings of the present. It is a moment of connection, respect and remembrance. Led by Yoruba priests and community leaders, this sacred ceremony opens our celebration in a spirit of unity, grounding us in the powerful history of Mitchelville and the Gullah Geechee culture.
