Forging a Life
to
Rose Hill Plantation State Historic Site 2677 Sardis Rd, Union, South Carolina 29379
Explore the African-American historical experience at Rose Hill Plantation through powerful storytelling, interactive activities and demonstrations by living historians.
Following emancipation, some freed people left Rose Hill while others remained and became tenant farmers. In both slavery and freedom, African-Americans worked hard to forge a life for themselves and their families at Rose Hill Plantation.
Interactive activities will include brick-making and blacksmithing demonstrations, an 1800s cooking demonstration in the historic kitchen house, a ranger-led on- and off-trail walk to historical ruins at noon and an artifacts table with state parks’ archaeologist.
Also, experience a first-person historical interpretation of the life, trials, tribulations and triumphs of a slave named Adam as portrayed by noted historian and historic interpreter Dontavius Williams. The Chronicles of Adam will take place at 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. Enjoy the harmonized performance of the Sunrise Gospel Singers.
There will be a cash only BBQ food vendor on site throughout the day.
Admission: $5 for adults and $2 for children ages 6-15 (Cash is preferred.)
