Ed Harrison Memorial Celtic Christmas Concert
to
Hagood Mill Historic Site and Folklife Center 138 Hagood Mill Road, Pickens, South Carolina 29671
Several years ago, Hagood Mill approached well-known local Uilleann Pipe-player Ed Harrison to host a Celtic Christmas show in December. Visitors loved it! It has become an annual event and featured many fine regional musicians sharing songs of the season.
Ed Harrison was a remarkably versatile musician, with a passion for playing multiple styles of roots music on a wide variety of instruments. Sadly, after over 20 years of battling cancer, Ed passed away in 2012. The annual event has been named in his honor.
Along with the event's co-hosts, Lucy Allen and Marshall Goers, this year's event features two local musical groups: The Wolf Moon String Band and Lissakeole.
The Third Saturday events are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and showcase the historic Hagood Mill, a water-powered 1845 gristmill, and they feature a variety of local craftsmen and artisans that bring crafting traditions to life. Stone-ground grits, cornmeal, flour and other items are made in the mill at every event and are available for purchase in the mill and the gift shop.
The Hagood Creek Petroglyph Site is open, handicapped accessible and climate controlled, and it includes a program. Admission to the Hagood Mill and the Petroglyph Site is free, but there is a $5 parking charge, with proceeds going to help the Hagood Mill.
Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or a blanket for seating to enjoy the music performances. There will be on-site concessions available. Pets are welcome but must be kept on a leash. Music may be held inside when weather dictates.
