South Carolina fought the desegregation of its schools longer than any other state, even after the passage of Brown v. Board of Education in 1954. But a determined effort to enforce Brown, spearheaded by the NAACP, prevailed, and in January 1963 the Fourth Circuit Court ordered Clemson College to admit Harvey Gantt, a young African-American man from Charleston.
The Education of Harvey Gantt is free to the public and will be shown at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 1, at the Horry County Museum, located at 805 Main Street in Conway.
