Culture & Cultivation in the Gardens
to
Rose Hill Plantation State Historic Site 2677 Sardis Rd, Union, South Carolina 29379
Formal gardens served as a buffer between the house and the work areas and provided plantation owners with an opportunity to showcase their ornamentals. The Gist family had, at one point, over a hundred varieties of roses in the parterre gardens at Rose Hill. Join Master Gardeners Diana and Jim Glaser for an interactive program covering the care and cultivation of roses and other historical garden plants and flowers. Gardens and lawns were also part of the culture of Southern life, providing an area for outdoor activities. We’ll have croquet, horseshoes and other 1800s games available for your enjoyment. All program attendees will receive a plant from the Rose Hill garden to take home. Light refreshments will be served. Reservations required.
Fee: $5/person, 15 and under are free.
