Clemson Area African American Museum Call for Art

The Clemson Area African American Museum (CAAAM) is pleased to announce a call to artists for an exhibition honoring Black life in the Upstate. CAAAM invites artists in all disciplines to submit art that represents and celebrates the unique culture and heritage of African Americans in Upstate South Carolina.
Eligibility is open to artists 18 years and older residing in Pickens, Oconee, Anderson and Greenville counties. All 2-D and 3-D visual and multimedia arts are welcome. No performance or A.I. artwork is eligible. If video/audio art is submitted and accepted into the exhibit, artists are responsible for all necessary equipment for display.
Artists may submit up to three pieces. Artwork should be dry, wired and ready to hang. No clip frames or sawtooth hangers. Artwork must not exceed 50 pounds and should be no more than 3 feet wide if the work is three dimensional. Please indicate if a pedestal is needed to display your work. Artists must be able to hand deliver artwork(s) to CAAAM by the due date.

Please include the title, year of completion, medium and size of each piece. You may submit no more than three images per piece. Label images (JPG or PNG files only) clearly with your last name and first name initial (Ex. RobinsonM #1, RobinsonM #2) to distinguish each individual piece. Submissions must be sent to Morgan Robinson at mrobinson@cityofclemson.org.
Important dates:
- Submission Deadline: June 15
- Notification of Acceptance via Email: July 20
- Drop-off Artwork(s): Aug. 1-15
- Opening Reception: Sept. 4
- Exhibition Dates: Sept. 5- May 1, 2027
- Pickup Artwork(s): May 3-15, 2027
There is no guarantee that artwork will be chosen. Artwork will be judged on artistic merit and whether the artwork fits the criteria.
This call for art is free to enter; however, artists will be responsible for all costs associated with creating and delivering artwork to and from the museum. If chosen, artists must sign a loan agreement for the full duration of the exhibition. Artwork may not be removed until the final date of the exhibit. The museum will not conduct any sales on the artist's behalf. Interested buyers will be referred to the artists who are responsible for the sale and shipping of their work to buyers after the conclusion of the exhibit.
