Charleston Parks Conservancy Celebrates Lowcountry Earth Week

Charleston Parks Conservancy will be celebrating Lowcountry Earth Week with several free, educational programs in parks all around the City of Charleston.
Lowcountry Earth Week is a collaborative initiative of more than 40 local conservation organizations taking place from April 15-22. The week-long celebration of the region’s natural beauty and resources features a variety of clean-ups, nature activities and workshops will culminate on Earth Day with a celebration at Holy City Brewing on April 22.
The public is invited to connect with their parks and celebrate Lowcountry Earth Week with Charleston Parks Conservancy during the following programs:
Saturday, April 15
Charleston Area Beekeepers Association Expo, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Brittlebank Park, 185 Lockwood Drive in Charleston.
The Charleston Area Beekeepers Association (CABA) and the Charleston Parks Conservancy will present this free family-friendly event with local beekeepers who will share about bees and products of the hive like honey, wax, and royal jelly. Experts on native plants will be teaching about planting for pollinators while reducing and managing chemical applications. There will be live music, food trucks, and activities for all ages as well as local honey products and natural hand-made crafts for sale. Registration is free.
Tuesday, April 18
Honeybee Hive Inspection, 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., at Magnolia Community Garden's Apiary, 720 Magnolia Rd.
Join two Conservancy Beekeepers as they inspect a honeybee hive and share about the magic of bees. Attendees will observe the inspection from a safe distance and additional best practices for observing a hive inspection will be shared onsite. Registration is free.
Wednesday, April 19
Water Conservation in the Garden, 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., at Corrine Jones Community Garden, 36 Marlow Dr.
Learn best practices for watering in summer heat with an intro to rain gardening/water harvesting in Charleston’s sub-tropical climate. Attendees will make an Olla self-watering pot to take home. Registration is free.
Wednesday, April 19
Birdwatching in the Park and Litter Sweep, 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., at the west end of the West Ashley Greenway, McLeod Mill Rd.
Charleston Parks Conservancy’s popular bird walk series will be paired with a litter sweep of the western end of the West Ashley Greenway to help provide a thriving habitat for birds. Attendees will meet at the trailhead of the Greenway. Registration is free.
Saturday, April 22
Earth Day Celebration, 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.at Holy City Brewing.
Celebrate the end of earth week with all partners of Lowcountry Earth Week through this family-friendly tabling event at Holy City Brewing. Learn more.
Wednesday, April 26
The last Birdwatching in the Park event of the month, 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., at Higgins Pier/West Ashley Bikeway, 1022 Main St.
Attendees will learn how to listen for different species while learning about the uniqueness of these species. Binoculars are recommended but are not required. Registration is free.
