“Art & Imagination in Children’s Literature” showcases the work of Winthrop University art students who took the course, “Illustration: Fairy Tales and Children’s Literature,” in fall 2014. Taught by Professor David Brown, the course leads students through an explorative study of classic, folk and contemporary children’s literature, and culminates in the students creating their own storybooks with original narratives and illustrations. The museum exhibit also incorporates storybooks and illustrations by Rock Hill’s renowned artist, Vernon Grant.
A reception for “Art & Imagination in Children’s Literature” will be held at the Museum of York County on Thursday, February 19 from 6-8 p.m. The reception is free with admission and open to the public. Light refreshments will be provided by museum volunteers.
Support for “Art & Imagination in Children’s Literature” is provided by the Arts Council of York County Small Grants Program, the John and Susan Bennett Memorial Arts Fund of the Coastal Community Foundation of SC, and the SC Arts Commission, which received funding from the National Endowment for the Arts. The exhibition will run at the Museum of York County from February 14 – August 30, 2015
