Central Carolina Community Foundation, the Midlands’ center for philanthropy, is bringing the region together — online — for its seventh annual Midlands Gives day on Tuesday, May 5, 2020, with a new virtual headquarters and a lower, $10 minimum donation. This year, 408 local nonprofits are participating in the 18-hour, online-only giving challenge on May 5 from 6 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. at www.midlandsgives.org.The COVID-19 pandemic is impacting the entire community, including the region’s nonprofits, making this a critical time to support organizations through Midlands Gives. Nonprofit resources are strained due to a variety of factors related to the spread of the coronavirus, including the cancellation and postponement of fundraising events, a decline in donations from corporations and individuals due to market upheaval, an absence of volunteers, and an increased demand for services. To ensure the safety of all Midlands Gives participants, the day of giving will take place entirely online. This year’s event will debut a virtual headquarters, allowing staff, nonprofits, and donors to follow social distancing and safety guidelines.Since its inception in 2014, Midlands Gives has raised $9.3 million for hundreds of local nonprofits, helping to amplify their impact, administer vital public services, and boost the quality of life in the Midlands.
