"The Seagull"
Johnson Theatre at Winthrop University Alumni Drive, Rock Hill, South Carolina 29730
One of the greatest plays of the modern era, Anton Chekhov's THE SEAGULL is a riveting exploration of the everyday longing that marks a family's days. They long for love, for youth, for new forms of artistic expression, for celebrity, and for connection. Like no other writer before, Chekhov drew a world filled with real, imperfect and specific characters, a world which celebrates our ability to laugh at the intense fragility of ordinary squabbles and daily interactions. Amid the weariness of life in the country, this comic tragedy recounts a celebrated actress, her rebellious playwright son, and a free-spirit who longs for a career on the stage, as they gather at a country estate riven with desperate love, with dreams of success and dread of failure. Fueled by rivalry and the pursuit of fame, passions soon erupt as Chekhov's characters lead lives of not-so-quiet desperation.
Tickets are $8 with a Winthrop University ID and $15 to the general public.
