The Winter Bluegrass Jubilee, which attracts more than 1,200 bluegrass lovers, is scheduled for Jan. 26! This year is special because the Young Appalachian Musicians (YAM) is celebrating its 10-year anniversary! The Winter Bluegrass Jubilee is a fundraiser for YAM, an organization that teaches over 300 kids how to play traditional Southern Appalachian Music by ear on the banjo, mandolin, fiddle and guitar, utilizing traditional pickers from our area as instructors. The funds raised from this event help kids on free and reduced lunch to have 20 lessons per year in an after-school music program, attend a weeklong summer camp, and participate in performances at this event and KidsFest in the spring. In addition to many other regional bluegrass bands, the headliner this year is Blue Highway. Blue Highway has earned 28 collective IBMA Awards, 6 SPBGMA Awards, one Dove Award and three Grammy nominations as a band, plus two Grammy Awards among its current members. There will also be an artisan and craft fair, Appalachian life workshops, food vendors, jamming rooms, contra dancing, a youth talent show, silent auction and raffle.
