Sweet Mountain Delights Baking Class

Learn to prepare traditional southern Appalachian desserts as they were made in the mid-19th century.No standard measuring tools available. Cook and clean without the use of running water and electricity.  Make and bake sweet potato pie, apple pie, and biscuits in double Dutch ovens.  Learn the secrets of making perfect fried pies as well as boiled coffee.  All food will be prepared by the open fire. Learn fire management skills as well as care and maintenance of cast iron cookware. All recipes can be adapted to modern cooking methods.

Students need only to bring their own dish, beverage mug and eating utensils.  All other supplies provided.  No hearth cooking experience required. Tuition is $75.00 per student. Students must be at least 18 years of age to enroll. Advanced registration is required.
