Learn about the leisure activities that fostered a sense of community among African Americans in the Carolina Piedmont during the 1950s and 1960s at “By the Sweat of our Brows.”
Brattonsville descendant Wali Cathcart will describe his experiences in Negro League baseball. Led by African American descendants and historic interpreters, families will enjoy various traditional activities including softball and baseball, schoolyard games and cooking.
Concessions will be provided by Kenny Lyle’s Fish Fry. “By the Sweat of Our Brows” happens Saturday, Sept.14, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Admission fees: adults $8; seniors $7; youth 4-17 $5; free for CHM members and ages 3 and under.
