The South Carolina Beard Club is once again planning its annual Beard and Mustache Competition for Saturday, Sept. 17, at the Rockin’ Hard Saloon.
SCBC is bringing back all the best categories from last year’s bouts to once again pit the best of the best in this all-out, friendly, follicle feud. Whether you’re just starting out or have years of committed growth under your belt, there is a place for you. There are even two special categories for the ladies, known as Whiskerinas, who create beards and mustaches out of various creative materials.
Last year, our beard competition raised $1,700 for Sea Haven Street Outreach Center Project Lighthouse. This year, the club wants to turn its attention to others in need of help: our wounded warriors. The Beard Club has partnered with Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association, also in the Myrtle Beach area, to be the recipient of the proceeds for 2016.
CVMA is an association of combat veterans from all branches of the United States armed forces who ride motorcycles as a hobby. Their mission is to support those who have defended or are currently, defending our country, freedoms and way of life. Their focus is to help veteran-care facilities in our area provide a warm meal, clothing, shelter and guidance, or simply to say "thank you," and "welcome home."
CVMA’s membership includes full members (those with verified combat service), supporter members (those who have non-combat military service, and have a sincere dedication to helping veterans) and auxiliary members (spouses of full and support members). They have members from nearly all 50 states and some living abroad. Many members continue to serve in our armed forces, with several serving in combat areas now.
CVMA members live in all 50 states and abroad and organize, sponsor and/or participate in many motorcycle-related charity events each year. As a nonprofit organization, CVMA donates all proceeds to various local veteran care facilities and veteran charities.
