Sculptor Patrick Dougherty Artist Talk and Opening Reception
to
Gibbes Museum of Art 135 Meeting St., Charleston, South Carolina 29401
In a career spanning four continents and three decades, environmental artist Patrick Dougherty has created over 200 majestic, site-specific sculptures out of nothing more than locally gathered saplings. Woven together and held in place by tension, Dougherty's sculptures have a whimsical quality, inspired by his childhood adventures exploring the woods of North Carolina. From May 6 to May 24 at the Gibbes Museum of Art, Dougherty will create a site-specific sculpture in the Museum's glass atrium, creating a visual connection between the interior gallery space and the lush outdoor garden.
The opening reception, featuring a talk from Dougherty, will cost $25 for members, $35 for nonmembers and $10 for students or faculty (must present valid student or faculty ID at event).
Due to the scope of the project, Dougherty needs volunteers to help gather and prep materials and to assist with creating the installation from March 6-10. If you are interested in volunteering and would like more information, please contact Amanda Breen at abreen@gibbesmuseum.org.
