Spring Break Camps
to
S.C. State Museum 301 Gervais St., Columbia, South Carolina 29201
Each day of the S.C. State Museum's spring break camps will focus on a different subject matter from history to science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) programming and art. Every day of camp features a morning social time with other campers, museum exploration, hands-on and interactive activities, snack time and lunch time. Each day campers will be divided into groups by ages 6-8, 9-11 and 12-14.
Monday, April 10 – Astronomy Day: Campers will have a seasonal SkyTour experience in the planetarium and be able to identify objects in the spring sky. They'll also learn all about solar science and sun safety with UV experiments.
Tuesday, April 11 – S.T.E.A.M Day: Campers will learn all about electricity as we experiment with conductors and insulators and create circuits with dough! We'll use this knowledge to create our own L.E.D. creations and design a fan with a working motor to keep us cool.
Wednesday, April 12 – Natural History Day: After an exciting trip to the 4D theater, campers will further explore concepts of camouflage and limiting resources as educators from the City of Columbia Parks and Recreation pay us a visit.
Thursday, April 13 – History Day: We will learn about the history and uniqueness of Gullah culture and create our very own sweetgrass baskets using traditional techniques and materials.
Friday, April 14 – Art Day: Campers will explore color mixing and design through screen printing and experiment with sound science as they create their own beautiful wind chimes.
