"Rodin: Portraits of a Lifetime"
Methodist University - David McCune International Art Gallery 5400 Ramsey Street, Fayetteville, North Carolina 28311
At the peak of his career, French sculptor Auguste Rodin was regarded as the greatest sculptor since Michelangelo. Leaving behind 19-century academic traditions, Rodin focused on conveying the vitality of the human spirit. Today, we see Rodin’s pioneering sculpture as a crucial link between traditional and modern art. This exhibition showcases 20 selections from the collection of Iris & B. Gerald Cantor, including portrayals of 19-century luminaries such as authors Victor Hugo and Honoré de Balzac and composer Gustav Mahler. The exhibition includes reliefs, portrait busts and full-length sculptures, ranging in height from less than a foot to 7 feet high. During the last four decades, the Iris & B. Gerald Cantor Foundation has loaned individual works and entire exhibitions to museums in more than 160 cities in Australia, Canada, Japan, Singapore and the U.S. The David McCune International Art Gallery is honored to continue this tradition.
This exhibition has been organized and made possible by the Iris & B. Gerald Cantor Foundation. The exhibit continues through May 7.
