Build a fire from scratch and learn the secrets of successful fire building and fire maintenance.Prepare and eat some of the traditional spring greens and learn why foraging for greens was so vital in the life of mountain folk. Prepare traditional chicken and dumplings, churn butter, bake corn pone, roast and boil coffee. Experience cooking without running water or electricity. Learn about the care and maintenance of cast iron. All recipes can be adapted to modern cooking methods.
Students need only to bring their own dish, beverage mug and eating utensils. All other supplies provided. No hearth cooking experience required. Students must be at least 18 years of age to enroll. Tuition is $75.00 per student. Preregistration is required.
