Czech composer Antonin Dvořak's From the New World is considered one of the most popular of all symphonies. Astronaut Neil Armstrong carried the cassette into space during 1969 Apollo 11 moon landing. In 1892, Dvořak wrote his two most successful orchestral works, the Symphony From the New World and Cello Concerto, after moving to New York.
Violin Concerto in D Major was written in 1878 in a Swiss resort on the shores of Lake Geneva, where Tchaikovsky has gone to recover from the depression of a disastrous marriage and failed suicide attempt. Inspired by a young violinist he met there, the composer completed the entire work in less than a month.
Recipient of the prestigious 2015 Avery Fisher Career Grant and the 2017 Lincoln Center Award for Emerging Artists, violinist Paul Huang has gained attention for his eloquent music making, distinctive sound and effortless virtuosity. Huang is making his 2018 recital debut at the Lucerne Festival in Switzerland and embarks on a tour in La Jolla, Chicago, Toronto, Palm Desert, Taiwan (Taipei, Hsinchiu, Tainan), New York, and culminating at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C.
